Ministry Team of the Month: Church Family Meals

If you have ever participated in a church Thanksgiving or Christmas meal, or the church picnic, the annual meeting potluck, or our monthly Doughnut Sunday, then you have experienced the incredible work of this month’s ministry team. Our Church Family Meals Ministry Team plans and promotes all meals that help us fellowship and build community in our church family. This team is lead by Debbie Streeter and Becky Miller.

If you love to cook for others, wash dishes or plan huge feasts, then this is a great ministry team for you to join. Currently this team is in need of volunteers who are willing to bake or donate doughnuts, muffins, or other pastries for our Doughnut Sundays. There is a sign up sheet in the Fellowship Hall or you can contact Debbie or Becky for more information.

Servant Spotlight: Bruce Southworth

This month’s servant spotlight is on Bruce Southworth who serves regularly with the Worship Support, Housekeeping, and Tuesday Worship Ministry Teams. You probably will not see Bruce do his work with the Housekeeping Team, because most of it happens before many of us are out of bed!

How do you serve in the church family and the community?
I help with communion prep and Tuesday Worship and serve as a janitor. In the community, I treat my neighbors the way I myself would like to be treated.

Why do you serve?
Because of my Christian love.

What is your favorite part about serving?
Being proud to be in such a good family of believers

What have you learned from serving other?
We all have feelings and special needs.

What would you say to someone who is considering serving in a new way?
Please try! It will give you a great feeling and make you part of the Christian family.

Ministry Team of the Month: Outreach Ministry Team

We have many ministry teams that are doing some incredible work. Each month we will feature one of those teams and let you know how you can get involved with that ministry.

This month we want to introduce the Outreach Ministry Team. This team provides opportunities for the church family to connect with and share God’s love with our local community for the purpose of sharing the Gospel.

Some of the programs/activities this team organizes include Trick-or-Treat Warming Station, Feeding America food trucks, the Personal Needs Pantry, holiday food baskets, and our partnership with We Care I.N.C. Many of these programs are not new to us, but this is a new team and we are in need of people to be involved.

Servant Spotlight: McKinley Springett

This month’s servant spotlight is on McKinley Springett and her work with several of our ministry teams. If you see McKinley, be sure to thank her and encourage in her Kingdom work.

Where do you serve?
I help with the Personal Needs pantry and Feeding America. I have been helping by update the decorations in our Sunday School classrooms. I help Leigh Ann make sure the pews are filled with visitor cards, sharp pencils, and special offering envelops. I help Grandma with Grandpa. I also went to Haiti on a mission trip. In October, I’m going to start helping with JAM.

What is your favorite part about serving?
Helping others without asking for something back

What have you learned from serving other?
It is a good thing. It is also serving God. I love doing it!

Why do you serve?
I have the time and the energy and it is serving God

What advice do you have for other people who are serving?
It is really serving God and it helps others. Once you get to use to it, it can be a lot of fun.

Get Involved

There are many things I love about being part of a small, rural church. I love the friendly, family atmosphere. I appreciate the steadfast faith of the older church members. Their unshakeable trust is a great example to the younger generations. I enjoy hearing the children sing songs about Jesus at the top of their lungs and dancing to the tunes with great joy. Their unhindered worship is a great example to those of us who have allowed the world to stifle our passion and desire to scream the Good News from the top of our lungs. Yes, there are many great things about small, rural churches like BCC, the one I grew up in, and the others I’ve worshiped with over the years.

Any church regardless of size and location has struggles. Small, rural churches are not exempt from this, but I’m pretty convinced we don’t have to let struggles distract us from loving God and loving our neighbors. In fact, I’m growing more and more convinced that those struggles may be the greatest opportunities we can give God to make his name and glory known to our community.

Small, rural churches have an abundance of potential for amazing ministry to be done. One of the great struggles in these churches is that they rarely come close to reaching their God-given potential. There are various reasons that contribute to this, but it would take far too much space and time to explore them in a single article. Instead of looking at the reasons why, I would rather invite you to be a part of the solution. In order for any church to reach its God-given potential as a
congregation, it requires everyone to get involved. Every one has gifts, talents, and abilities. Everyone can do something. No matter you age, IQ, health, or stature. God wants you to partner with Him in doing His work.

So here is the invitation: find the things you are passionate about, that you enjoy doing, or are good at, and do them with a ministry heart. You can cook. Cook some meals for people recovering for surgery or for our church dinners. You love kids. Teach a Sunday School class or volunteer at JAM. You like to build and fix things. Help the neighbors with broken steps or spend a few hours every couple weeks helping us tackle some things around the building. If you don’t volunteer because you are waiting to be asked, THIS IS THE ASK!  God already told us to go serve. God already gave us instructions about all the parts of the body working together. Get in the game and help our church family be the church that God has called us to be.

We have worked hard this year to create new ministry teams and develop our existing teams. We have had individuals step up to be Ministry Team Leaders, so that we can do our part in the Kingdom work God has called us to do. Below you will see two lists. The first list consists of teams that currently have Ministry Team Leaders and are looking for people to serve alongside them in those ministries. The second list are the teams that we are hoping to find leaders for in the next few months. Which one catches your attention? Which one makes you excited about what God could do through that team? Which one includes gifts and talents you have? If you aren’t sure, give me a call or stop by the office. I would love to help you discover how God is desiring to partner with you!
